Vitiligo is caused by the lack of a pigment called melanin in the skin. Melanin is produced by the skin cells called melanocytes, which gives colour to the skin. So, white patches develop over skin or hair. Though exact cause of this auto-immune condition is not known but sometimes it is seen genetically.
